Transferring a Balance to Your Via Benefits Individual HSA
This article applies to you if you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) administered by Via Benefits.
This process is not required if you’ve had an HSA administered by Via Benefits through your previous employer. When your employment ends, your employer-sponsored HSA is automatically converted to a Via Benefits Individual HSA.
Money in an existing HSA can be added to your Via Benefits Individual HSA in two ways:
Via Benefits facilitates an HSA-to-HSA transfer.
You roll over your current HSA balance into your Via Benefits Individual HSA.
Transfers or rollovers must be between your own HSA accounts; they cannot involve a spouse’s HSA.
Via Benefits Facilitates an HSA-to-HSA Transfer
1. Navigate to viabenefitsaccounts.com and sign in.
2. Request a transfer by selecting Transfer an HSA to Us on your account Dashboard.
3. Select HSA-to-HSA Transfer and select Continue.

4. Complete the HSA-to-HSA Transfer request.
5. Via Benefits will send the completed transfer request to the HSA provider indicated on the transfer request. This may take up to three business days.
6. The prior HSA provider will process the request and send the money to Via Benefits. This process typically takes four to six weeks to complete.
7. Via Benefits receives the transferred money and deposits it into your new HSA. This may take up to seven business days.
The total timeframe for an HSA-to-HSA transfer is four to eight weeks.
You Roll Over Your Current HSA Balance Into Your Via Benefits Individual HSA
You can request a distribution from your current HSA administrator and roll it into your Via Benefits Individual HSA. (Per IRS regulations, the rollover of money from one HSA to another is limited to one transaction every 12 months.)
1. Contact your prior HSA provider to request a distribution of your existing HSA balance.
The prior HSA provider will supply instructions and required forms.
The timing will vary by provider.
2. Your prior HSA provider will issue a payment directly to you by check or direct deposit.
3. You deposit the money into your personal account.
Note: You must deposit the money from your prior provider into your Via Benefits HSA within 60 days of receiving the payment.
4. Navigate to viabenefitsaccounts.com and sign in.
5. Select Transfer an HSA to Us on your account Dashboard.
6. Select Rollover.

7. Complete the HSA Rollover to Via Benefits request.
Note: If you request to deposit the money into your account using direct deposit, allow three to five business days for your direct deposit account to be validated.
8. The money will be deposited into your Individual HSA within five to seven business days.
