Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1 Through March 31)
The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA-OEP) is January 1 through March 31 each year. During this time, you have two options. You can switch from your current Medicare Advantage (MA) plan to another MA plan (with or without drug coverage), or you can drop your MA plan and return to Original Medicare. When you return to Original Medicare, it allows you to replace your MA/MAPD with a Prescription Drug plan (PDP). Additionally, you have a one-time opportunity to switch plans within the first three months after enrolling in both Part A and Part B. Changes made during the MA-OEP take effect the month after the plan receives your request.
